Calico (hamstring) was among the Titans' final cuts Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Calico, who was bothered by a hamstring injury that cost him time in training camp and preseason, has an enticing blend of size and speed that some team will probably roll the dice on, but thus far his NFL career hasn't amounted to much.

Once again, Calico will be given a chance to prove he belongs on the field, though the once highly regarded receiver is now fighting for the number three receiver role behind Drew Bennett and David Givens with the likes of Courtney Roby, Roydell Williams, Brandon Jones, and Bobby Wade. Calico has all the tools you could want in a wideout - he's big and strong at 6'4 and around 220 pounds, and he's freaky fast. Despite that, Calico has been a major underacheiver, and missed a lot of time rehabbing injuries in his short career. Don't look for a turnaround this season unless someone ahead of him is injured.
After surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee, as well as his ACL and medial meniscus last October, Calico is expected to be ready for training camp, but there are no guarantees. Should he be at full speed, however, there’s a lot to like. Not only would he inherit the starting job opposite Drew Bennett, but he’d also figure to see a lot of targets, as the Titans likely will field a substandard defensive unit, requiring the offense to throw often. Bennett’s 2004 campaign earned him the double teams from opposing defenses, and the 6-4, 222-pound Calico, who also has blazing speed, will often see single coverage. While Calico is a tremendous athlete, and a big target in the red zone, he’s also a little raw, with below average route-running skills and less-than-stellar hands. Still, he’s in an ideal situation to succeed, and it’s hard to imagine a player with better physical tools.
The only target on the Titans capable of being a legitimate go-to receiver, Calico, who goes 6-4, 222 pounds and runs a 4.34 40, is unlikely to emerge as a starter until 2005. If he shows enough to supplant Bennett or if Mason gets hurt, insert him into your lineup without hesitation. Failing that, Calico will be a suitable emergency play because of Steve McNair’s tendency to get multiple receivers involved in the red zone.
Calico is a raw talent with incredible physical gifts (6-foot-4, 220 pounds, 4.34-second 40-yard dash). Calico enters training camp as the number five receiver, yet could work his way up the depth chart with an impressive camp. With the exception of Derrick Mason, the Titan's have no star wideouts, yet Calico will likely not get enough playing time this season to be used on fantasy teams.
