Knee - ACL + MCL
October 20, 2014
Young suffered a torn ACL/MCL on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season, Scott Bair of CSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Young was helped off the field in the third quarter and carted to the locker room. He took over the starting job after Tyvon Branch went down with a broken foot in Week 3 and played nearly every step over the past four weeks. Young will miss the remainder of the season, and his recovery could carry over into the start of the 2015 season.

Passed over for the starting strong safety job in favor of Brandian Ross after Tyvon Branch went down with an ankle injury in September, Young went on to record a modest 26 tackles (20 solo), 2.5 sacks and one interception in 12 games in 2013. He'll return to provide depth along the back end for Oakland, but Brach's return will only reduce Young's opportunities at the start of the season.
Young was a starting safety for the Browns last season, but he was unable to stay healthy consistently enough to be a reliable option. He is expected to serve as the backup behind Charles Woodson at free safety.
Young had a solid first season in Cleveland, registering 70 tackles, third-best on the team, and intercepting one pass. He appeared in all 16 games and earned eight starts. With the departure of Mike Adams this offseason and the return of the injured T.J. Ward, Young will be battling Eric Hagg for the other starting safety position. Should he win the job he could have minimal value in very deep IDP formats.
Young will serve as the primary backup to Darren Sharper, even though the Saints view Malcolm Jenkins as the future at free safety for the team.
After disappointing at the corner position for the Saints, Young has welcomed the move to safety with open arms. Since this is his first year at the new position, he will be given the opportunity to learn backing up veteran Darren Sharper. Unfortunately, this gives him no value as an IDP this year unless injuries decimate the Saints' secondary.
Young, a second-year cornerback out of Kent State, spent 2007 as a reserve, recording 25 tackles and no interceptions in 14 games. Young doesn't have much chance of breaking into the starting lineup this year, with the Saints acquiring Randall Gay via free agency and Tracy Porter in the draft.
Young was a four-year starter with Kent State before being scooped up by the Saints with the 66th pick in the 2006 draft. Young should make the roster, but he is unlikely to see much playing time his rookie year with Jason David and Mike McKenzie projected as the team's starting corners.
