Lyle, who was treated for leukemia when he was 17, has suffered a recurrence of acute myeloid leukemia upon his return to Australia. Last week Lyle had problems that he thought resulted from an insect bite. He went back to Australia to be with his wife who is about to have their first child. He will undergo chemotherapy as soon as the baby is born. He had finished fifth at the Northern Trust Open and also played in the Mayakuba Golf Classic two weeks ago.

Lyle will take a break from the PGA Tour for the rest of the 2014-15 season, Golfweek reports. "I need to stress that this decision has nothing to do with my recent illness - I am still healthy and cancer-free," said Lyle in a statement. "As the year progressed, it has become increasingly obvious that I am simply not in a position to compete on the PGA Tour."
