It's impossible to talk about Compton without mentioning the fact that he's alive today with the aid of an artificial heart. Prior to last season, Compton was just a good side story, a guy who beat the odds to play professional golf. Now, he's a legit player on the PGA Tour and the talk is, as it should be, about his game. His game, by the way is pretty solid, he posted a career-high in earnings last season as well as a career-high in top-25s and top-10s. Now the bad news, he absolutely destroyed his previous high in earnings last year and to expect him to do it again this year is a bit much. In draft leagues though, he should be taken around the 7th round.
Dating back to the Shell Houston Open in March of 2013, Compton has exactly zero top-25s. If Compton had a track record previous to that dry spell, he might be worth a look in salary cap leagues, but he doesn't and as such, he's not worth consideration. He'll likely go undrafted in most leagues as well.
Straight outta Coral Gables, Compton who's played in 30 PGA Tour events, will start his first official season as a member in January. Compton is one of the few rookies who won't need much time to adjust to life on the PGA Tour as he's played nearly a full season throughout the course of his career. He's actually had more success than some full-time members. In 29 starts, he's made 17 cuts, if he can continue that pace this year, he might just make the Top 125.
Compton had his first heart transplant when he was 12. He went on to become a top-notch amateur and represented the USA in the Walker Cup. His second transplant took place in May 2008. He now has advanced to the second stage of the 2008 Q-school process in quest of attaining a 2009 PGA Tour playing card.
