First Euro Tour win in Hong Kong
November 26, 2018
Rai held off a hard charging Matthew Fitzpatrick to win his first European Tour event by a single shot at the Honma Hong Kong Open.
ANALYSIS
Rai was on fire from the start in Hong Kong, going 65-61 in the first two rounds with no bogeys. After a solid two-under 68 in round three, Rai was given a massive six shot lead to work with on Sunday. His nearest competitor, Matthew Fitzpatrick, got hot with the putter and reached seven-under for the round to get within one. Fitzpatrick would then bogey the 17th hole and par 18, making a Rai bogey on the 72nd hole meaningless. The Englishman had 10 top-25's last year, but just four top-10's. Rai looks poised to better that this time around, opening the new season as well as you can do. Rai will not be in the field for the Australian PGA Championship.
