Past Fantasy Outlooks
Knost has spent the better part of his seven-year career just trying to keep his status, but last year he finally showed some consistency and posted a career-best in earnings, top-3s and cuts-made. His performance last year is certainly promising, his cuts-made percentage is a good sign moving forward, but he simply doesn't have the track-record to justify a salary cap selection this season. In draft leagues, he's a seventh- or eighth-rounder.
Knost played on the PGA Tour in 2009 and 2011-13, highlighted by two third-place showings in 2012. He didn’t have a strong season on the Web.com Tour, but got hot at the right time, with a runner-up, another top 10 and a top 15 in the playoffs. So while he has a No. 6 priority ranking, he played well in a very small sample size to get there. It doesn’t bode well for a strong return to the PGA Tour.
Knost didn't fare so well in his first couple go-rounds on the PGA TOUR, but he got the hang of it last season when he finally finished in the top 125. Well, he got the hang of it for part of the season anyhow. Knost played well early in the season and pretty much wrapped up his card before May. Thereafter, it was a different story as Knost had trouble even making a cut. Perhaps he relaxed after he wrapped up his card, but even if that's the case, it's not a good sign for the this season.
Knost was the 2007 winner of Public Linx and U. S. Amateur Championships plus a major factor in the USA win of the '07 Walker Cup. He passed up the automatic invitations to 2009 The Masters, the 2009 U.S. Open and the 2009 British Open to turn professional. Knost was ranked first in the World Amateur Golf Rankings during most of 2007.
