2019–20 Fantasy Outlook
Gomez has appeared in at least 20 PGA Tour events throughout each of the last five seasons, and he'll retain his card again for the 2019-20 campaign despite finishing just 169th in the FedEx Cup standings. It took a runner-up effort at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship to keep his status, having collected only four top-25s in 20 starts on the PGA Tour this past season. Nonetheless, he managed to post a couple top-15s late in the summer at the 3M Open and Wyndham Championship, picking up steam before the KFT Finals. The 40-year-old Argentinian was 39th in SG: Around-the-Green, but ranked 100th or worse in the remaining Strokes Gained subcategories. Read Past Outlooks

Gomez tied his career high with 16 made cuts throughout the 2017-18 PGA Tour season, but descended to 162nd in the FedExCup standings and was forced to regain his card through the Web.com Tour Finals. The 39-year-old finished T17-T9 at the Web.com Tour Championship and Albertsons Boise Open to end the season on a positive note, but he remains outside of the top 500 in the Official World Golf Ranking. In 2017-18, Gomez lost strokes in every category except putting, ranking 40th on tour with the flat stick from inside 10 feet.
Gomez finished 171st, but keeps his card thanks to winning the 2016 Sony Open. He also had three other top-10s and cashed more than $2 million in 2015-16. But last season was not so fruitful for Gomez, who made 10 cuts in 21 starts, with three top-25s, the best being T18 at Memphis.
It took a while for Gomez to get going on the PGA Tour as poor play and injuries slowed him for much of his first three years on tour, but he seems to have figured it out and he's looking for a third consecutive solid season this year. The negative aspect of Gomez' game is his cut percentage. He's missed 19 cuts in 52 starts over the past two season and will need to improve that number if he's to continue his ascent up the rankings. Gomez relies too heavily on wins to boost his numbers and it's impossible to project wins for a guy like Gomez. With that in mind, Gomez is not a smart salary cap option this year. In drafts, Gomez should be taken in the fifth or sixth round.
Gomez is back after full-time duty in 2011 and 2013, when he notched his best finish, runner-up in the opposite-field Puerto Rico Open. A second-place finish on the Web.com Tour helped him get back, securing a top-25 spot on the regular-season money list. At 48th in the priority rankings, it’s not a good place to be.
Gomez has steadily moved up the ranks of the Nationwide Tour the last three seasons and has finally earned his PGA TOUR card for 2011. Gomez has improved his scoring average about one stroke per year over the last couple seasons. The best could be in front of Gomez.
