Palmer declared Friday that he would retire from playing competitive golf after withdrawing from a Champions Tour event early in the first round.

The 77-year hit two balls into the water on the fourth hole, and later withdrew on account of a sore back. Palmer displayed displeasure for not doing what he has done his whole career, entertain the crowd, "I've been doing this for a long time and, first of all, to stand out there and not be able to make something happen is very traumatic in my mind," Palmer said. Palmer, winner of seven major titles, including four Masters said that he would continue playing golf for charity. It's truly a sad day in golf as one of the best ever has finally called a quits. Palmer provided us with so many fond memories, and will forever be remembered as one of golf's greatest players ever.
