Smith has been one of the regular DP World Tour players for the last handful of years, and now he will get his chance to take up full PGA Tour membership. Smith put together a season in which he had six top-10s and 13 top-25s. He also made the cut in both of his major starts. Smith ranked 20th in SG: Tee-to-Green and eighth in GIR percentage on the DP World Tour. The ball striking has always been there for the 33-year-old, but the putting can be very streaky. Smith moved into a share of 23rd place following his three-under 68 in the final round of the Cognizant Classic.
ANALYSIS
Smith made the cut on the number on Friday evening, but a 67-68 weekend helped propel him into the top 25 of the tournament. This will be his second straight top-25 finish after a T16 last time out at TPC Scottsdale. Smith had a solid tournament across the board gaining strokes in every category with his best being 18th in SG: Around-the-Green. Smith was slated to tee it up at the Puerto Rico Open next week, but he has decided to pass on that.
