A few years ago, Peter Lonard was a popular sleeper pick as a player that could make his way to the next level. Since then he's dealt with a number of ailments, and he's never really made it back to the level many thought he should be at. He's shown flashes of that potential over the last couple years, but it seems like there is a ceiling for Lonard now, and it's not that high anymore.
One look at Lonard's stats and you'll wonder how he does it. His all-round rank in 2006 was 174th, yet he finished 103 on the money list. Even more surprising with those poor stats is his consistency. Lonard only missed four cuts in 22 events. In leagues geared toward stats, Lonard is an easy pass. In leagues geared toward score of money earned, then he should be considered.
Lonard bounced back from an injury plagued 2004 to have his best season to date. It wasn't his most consistent season, but he did pull out a win at the MCI Heritage, which earned him $936k. Lonard followed that victory with a third-place finish at the Colonial, but failed to do much else the rest of the way. That is a little concerning because Lonard has been a pretty consistent player most of his career. Be a little wary of spending almost $1.9 million on him this year.
Lonard was a nice sleeper pick in 2003, but the word is out: this guy is pretty good. His stats from last year leave a lot to be desired ($1,323,594), but the year before he had great numbers. He's got the talent, but don't expect much at the beginning of the season, as he'll be missing some time with injured ribs.
