Leaney's earnings have improved each of the last three seasons, but the problem is, there doesn't seem to be any sign that a breakout is eminent. Leaney only carded two top-10s in 26 events last year. On the bright side, his greens in regulation has improved each of the last four seasons.
Leaney came on the scene at the 2003 U.S. Open when he finished runner-up to Jim Furyk. The following year he finished fourth at the WGC Match Play event. At that point he was destined for greater things. Problem is, Leaney didn't get the message. Since that point, Leaney has played at a level where he retains his card, but nothing more. Upside high, but recent history doesn't bode well.
Having played primarily on the European Tour in the past, he joins the PGA TOUR in 2004 after finishing fourth in non-member earnings in 2003 with $723,986.
