53rd place at AT&T Byron Nelson
May 22, 2018
Wheatcroft closed with a two-under 69 in the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson to finish in a tie for 53rd place.
ANALYSIS
Wheatcroft ranked inside the top-25 in both driving accuracy and greens in regulation. He lost strokes, however, on the greens and was the 74th ranked player in putts per greens in regulation. Wheatcroft has only teed it up in 12 tournaments this season, but has now made two of his last three cuts after missing his previous seven weekends. He is not in the field for the Fort Worth Invitational.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
2015
Wheatcroft averaged just $18,207 in earnings per entry throughout his 2016-17 campaign, finishing at 179th in the FedExCup standings. He'll retain his PGA Tour card, however, having placed inside of the top-25 in the Web.com Tour finals. Despite ranking 15th on Tour in driving accuracy, Wheatcroft was just 188th in GIR percentage as his iron play remained well below average.
Wheatcroft missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship in his last regular-season event, but his season had its moments – two top-5s late in the year – alongside 10 missed cuts and 13 finishes outside the top 25. Now he has limited starts and a need to improve on a balky tee to green game where he ranked 150th in that strokes gained category on the PGA Tour.
Wheatcroft played on the PGA Tour in 2007, ’10 and ’12, with a lone top 10 (third in 2010). He used a victory on the Web.com Tour this past season as a springboard to regaining his card, but it was his lone top 10 all year. So Wheatcroft caught lightning in a bottle for one week, rather than playing good golf for a long stretch. As such, with a less-than-favorable No. 36 priority ranking to start the season, he will not make an impact on the PGA Tour.
