Petrovic has played a whopping 157 events the last five seasons. With that many opportunities, almost any player is bound to strike gold from time to time, and that's the case with Petrovic. He made the cut 19 of 32 times last season but rarely made a move on the weekend. He logged only two top-10s all year, but that and four additional top-25s was enough to secure his card for 2011. At this point, we know what Petrovic will do each season - play a ton and make just enough money to keep his card. Petrovic is accurate off the tee as well as on the greens, but his distance off the tee and his GIR need improvement.
After a three-year mini slump, Petrovic finally found his top form in 2009. His top form isn't all that spectacular, but it was good enough to crack the top-60 on the money list. Petrovic plays as much as anyone on the PGA TOUR, so the opportunities are going to be there for him. But you many find yourself getting frustrated throughout the season as he quietly compiles $30-40K per week.
Tim Petrovic did just enough to hang onto his card after the 2006 season. He would have been in the same boat last year if it weren't for one good week at the Wyndham Championship. Petrovic showed some promise a few years ago, but he hasn't done much since then. This could be a case of a player having a good year once everyone has given up on him, but I just don't see it.
If not for his win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Petrovic would have been staring Q-School directly in the face. Petrovic is by no means a one-hit wonder, he's had successful years without benefit of a win, which makes last year's results even more puzzling. Looking at the results, or even the stats for that matter, most would probably toss this guy out. But look a little harder because Petrovic is a good player. Maybe the win last year gave him a comfort zone that he wasn't used to playing with. Not sure the reason for the poor play outside the win, but he'll play well this year. Again, that win might have inflated his price too much.
