Hamilton withdrew Monday from The Open Championship at Royal Portrush that begins July 18, citing family reasons, Will Gray of GolfChannel.com reports.

ANALYSIS
Hamilton has played a selective schedule this season, making only three starts in total, with two coming on the Champions Tour. He most recently played in the U.S. Senior Open Championship in late June and failed to crack the cut for the event. Hamilton, who qualified for The Open by virtue of his improbable 2004 win at Royal Troon Golf Club, will cede his spot in the field to Joaquin Niemann.
