Troy Matteson

Last season was not a great year for Matteson. Yes, he played well enough to earn his card for the 2013 season and he again topped $1 million, but outside a runner-up showing at the John Deere Classic, Matteson accomplished little. Matteson is a two-time winner on the PGA TOUR and more is expected from him. He's found himself in a bit of a funk the last few years, though, and there aren't a lot if signs that he's about to pull out of it anytime soon. Matteson does have some upside, but not enough to merit a selection at his price. In draft leagues, Matteson should be taken in the eighth round.

Matteson has made a living feasting on weak fields. It started in his rookie season of 2007 when he saved his bacon with a win at the Fyrs.com Open. He followed that with a runner-up showing at the Funai Classic - yes, a household name. It didn't stop there, though. With his playing privileges on the line in 2008, he mustered consecutive Top-10s at the Ginn sur Mer Classic and the Children's Miracle Network Classic. Last season he pulled the rabbit out of the hat at the Puerto Rico Classic where he finished runner-up. It was a big enough chunk of change to buy him some freedom for the remainder of the year. Long story short, Matteson has yet to prove he can get anything done during the meat of the season. Unless your season runs until November, he likely won't have much impact.

Matteson was on the brink of extinction halfway through 2009, but a win at the Frys.com Open gave him new life. Matteson finished a strong 2006 rookie season on quite a roll and carried some momentum into the following season, but his game started to fall apart in 2008 when he barely retained his card. Last season was going much worse as he was well out of the top-125 entering his last event, but his second PGA TOUR win gave him breathing room for this season and the next. That win will give Matteson more confidence heading into this season.

Matteson's rookie season of 2006 was looking bleak until he hit the fall season. During that fall season he earned nearly $1.5 million in five events to save his year. 2007 was supposed to be a great year for Matteson, but he was slowed by injuries. 2008 proved to be frustrating also as he never quite found a groove. 2009 is looking promising though as he played well against strong fields last year and is know two years removed from his injury-plagued 2007 season.

After a strong finish to his rookie season in 2006, Matteson went through a Sophomore slump in 2007. It wasn't so bad that he lost his card, but it certainly wasn't up to the expectations that he set the previous year. With two years on tour under his belt, Matteson should come out even stronger in 2008.

Matteson came into 2006 as one of the highly touted rookies but had little success for most of the year. Then came the fall season. An eighth-place finish at the Southern Farm Bureau Classic was followed up by a sixth-place finish at the Chrysler Classic, then came the big one. His first victory on the PGA Tour at the Fyrs.com Open. He backed that up with a couple more top-10s to finish the season. In the span of two months, he went from not having his card for 2007, to good sleeper pick, to PGA Tour winner, to solid pick for 2007. Well, at least we think he's solid for 2007. The fact that he didn't slow down after his first win means one of two things. Either he was just so hot nothing could stop him or he has a level head and is destined to be a solid player on tour. That he had a lot of success on the Nationwide Tour before joining the PGA Tour likely portends he's going to be good.
