Filip Gustavsson

Filip Gustavsson

27-Year-Old GoalieG
Minnesota Wild
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gustavsson had a rough 2023-24 campaign, but he completely turned things around in 2024-25 while taking on a starter's workload for a full season. He went 31-19-6 with a 2.56 GAA and a .914 save percentage over 58 regular-season appearances and maintained similar numbers in a six-game first-round loss to the Golden Knights in the playoffs. Gustavsson has also learned from a great mentor in Marc-Andre Fleury, whose retirement means Gustavsson should have more job security in 2025-26. The Wild are likely to roll with Jesper Wallstedt as the backup, though if he finds his way at the NHL level quickly, Gustavsson may see a smaller workload. Gustavsson has had high-end numbers in two of the last three years, and at 27 years old, he's firmly in his prime. Read Past Outlooks
Signed a five-year, $34 million contract extension with the Wild in October of 2025.

The Mammoth exploded for seven goals Thursday in St. Louis and are tied for seventh overall in scoring, averaging 3.50 goals per game.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Gustavsson's fall in 2023-24 was epic. His GAA went up almost a full goal (2.10 to 3.06) and his save percentage went from elite to below average (.931 to .899). Together, he and Marc Andre Fleury were the second-worst pairing in the league in GSAx (goals saved above expected) with a -16.72. Gustavsson's own GSAx nosedived more than 28 goals. He did rebound a bit in the second half, going 7-5-2 with a .906 save percentage after the All-Star Game. Can he rebound? Probably, but it's hard to know how far. That's why the 26-year-old netminder has been the subject of summer trade rumors because elite prospect Jesper Wallstedt is waiting in the wings. Gustavsson's best option may be in another city. He's a watch-and-wait option for your draft unless risk is your middle name.
Gustavsson staked his claim to an NHL job with gusto last year, recording a 22-9-7 record, a 2.10 GAA and a .931 save percentage with three shutouts in 39 games. He's set to once again share time with Marc-Andre Fleury in between the pipes for the Wild, but it's clear that this is a battle Gustavsson will ultimately win as Fleury's NHL time is running out. Fantasy managers shouldn't be scared of the playing-time split, as Gustavsson will likely continue to benefit from easing into the No. 1 job with a veteran safety net behind him. This is a tandem to target collectively, though coming away with either Gustavsson or Fleury alone isn't a disaster.
Gustavsson saw action in 18 games for the rebuilding Senators a season ago, managing a 5-12-1 record, 3.55 GAA and .892 save percentage. He was flipped to Minnesota in July in exchange for veteran goaltender Cam Talbot. Gustavsson will play this entire season at age 24 and has just 27 NHL appearances under his belt, but he should be considered the favorite to back up future Hall-of-Famer Marc-Andre Fleury this coming year. The Wild will almost certainly limit the workload of the 37-year-old Fleury, so Gustavsson could easily play 30-plus games for Minnesota in 2022-23.

Nearing contract extension
GMinnesota Wild
October 4, 2025
Gustavsson and the Wild are close to completing a contract extension, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Gustavsson is in the final year of a three-year, $11.25 million contract he signed in July of 2023. He would have been eligible for free agency after the 2025-26 season if the two sides could not agree on a new deal. Gustavsson is the No. 1 netminder with the Wild, posting a 31-19-6 record with five shutouts, a 2.56 GAA and a .914 save percentage across 58 regular-season appearances in 2024-25.
