Stefan has inked a deal with SC Bern of the Swiss league for the coming season, says a report from Europe.
ANALYSIS
The soon-to-be 27-year-old was a former number one pick overall (1999) but suffice to say he has failed miserably in his attempt to live up to his draft billing. His best season came just before the lockout (2003-04) when he managed to produce 41 points in 82 games for the Thrashers. Given his struggles on North American ice, there is good reason to believe he may make this move to Europe permanent. He played overseas during the lockout and was a star, potting 13 goals, 41 points and a plus-13 rating in 37 games with Ilves Tampere. He also produced a point per game in the playoffs that year. Sometimes it's better to be a big fish in a small pond than a minnow in the ocean.

Dallas is obviously hoping that a change of scenery will jumpstart Stefan's career. He won't be given a large role initially however following the signings of Eric Lindros and Jeff Halpern however.
Remember when Stefan was drafted first overall by the Thrashers in 1999? Seems like a long time ago. You figure with his pedigree and the talented forwards around him Stefan would be able to produce some good numbers … not the case. In his five years in the league, Stefan’s best season is 40 points. With the addition of Holik, Stefan will be centering the third line with no chance of moving up unless an injury occurs.
