Re-signed by the Sabres on September 12, 2006. Novotny was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Capitals in the summer of 2007, making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Signed a two-year deal with the Blue Jackets in July 2007, worth $1.5 million. Became an unrestricted free agent in July of 2009.
