Zigomanis was sent to the AHL Toronto Marlies on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
He was given a shot to earn the fourth-line center position but things just didn't pan out in camp. He may get recalled over the season if there are several injuries but a promotion won't come easy.

Zigomanis will bring a veteran presence to the Sabres’ AHL affiliate in Rochester after spending the past three seasons in the Leafs’ organization. He’s on the back nine of his career at this point, but should still be one of the more dependable players in Rochester, especially in a leadership role.
The former Phoenix Coyote posted 61 points in 68 contests last year while leading the AHL's Toronto Marlies to the Calder Cup finals. Zigomanis could be called-up from the A if injuries befall the Leafs, but the pivot has played in a mere 30 NHL games since the start of the 2008-09 season.
Zigomanis could stick in the NHL if he could just add a titch more offense to those gifted faceoff hands of his. But you just can't teach an old dog new tricks. Consider him a career minor leaguer going forward.
Zigomanis has settled into a career as a minor-league leader; he's not likely to see a sniff of time in the NHL this season.
Last season, Mike Zigomanis had a career year. He established career highs in games played (75), goals scored (14), assists (9), and points (23). The bulk of the scoring came from his work on the Coyotes 4th line. During the 2006-2007 campaign he was ranked 3rd on the team in goals scored and tied for 7th in the NHL for face-off percentage. Since being mired within both the Carolina Hurricanes and St. Louis Blues organizations, Zigomanis may have found his niche with the Phoenix Coyotes. He has proven that he can play on the second line and should be a solid contributor offensively for the team.
At best a third line center; in the context of Carolina's likely anemic offensive production, Zigomanis isn't worth drafting this season.
