Geoffrion announced his retirement from pro hockey Monday, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
ANALYSIS
A skull fracture and concussion from November is to blame for Geoffrion's early retirement, as the severe injury caused concerning lingering symptoms. If Geoffrion has played his last game, he finishes with 13 points at the NHL level and 64 in the AHL. He was a second-round pick in the 2006 draft and made his AHL debut in the 2009 playoffs.

Geoffrion scored just eight points (6G, 2A) in his rookie season with the Preds last year. He spent the first four months of the season in the AHL, but was recalled in February and stuck with the team right through to the end of the regular season and into the playoffs, where he added two assists in 12 games. Geoffrion certainly has the bloodlines and the raw scoring ability to make a big impact in the NHL someday, but for now, expect the Preds to continue to bring him along slowly.

Updating an earlier report, Geoffrion is considering retirement because of lingering effects of a skull fracture and concussion that he suffered in November, ctvnews.ca reports. "In light of his health condition, which has shown no significant improvement since he underwent surgery last November 10, he felt it was his responsibility to inform the Canadiens' management that he was considering retiring from professional hockey," according to a team statement.
