Brennan agreed to a contract with the Blackhawks on Thursday, the Associated Press reports.

Brennan scored three goals and had five assists for Boston College last season, and will hope to work his way into the good, young mix of promising players the Blackhawks currently have under contract.

Brennan is a great skater who is smart and loves to jump into the play. But don’t confuse agility and intelligence with offense -- he’s just not that kind of guy. His future lies as a smart yet somewhat undersized shutdown defender. And there’s little fantasy value in that.

Brennan scored his first career professional goal last season in his second professional season, both with Rockford of the AHL. Will probably need another year at Rockford.

Brennan was sent down to Rockford of the AHL on Sept. 18.

Brennan signed a contract with Chicago in April. He needs time to mature and should get that time in the minors next season.
