Pickard, a first-round draft pick for the Preds in 2008, is currently 23-18 with a 2.14 goals against average and a .918 save percentage playing for Djurgarden in Sweden.
ANALYSIS
Pickard's latest stats are encouraging, considering his save percentage was below .900 in each of his first three professional seasons. Pickard still has a ways to go before he's considered NHL-worthy, but he's making strides nonetheless. In the meantime, Pekka Rinne owners need not fear Pickard stepping in and taking over the netminding duties in Nashville.

Pickard, Nashville's first-round draft pick in 2008, will challenge Mark Dekanich for the right to back up Pekka Rinne in training camnp this year. However, Dekanich is expected to land the job based on his superior record playing in the AHL. Both Dekanich and Pickard played for the Milwaukee Admirals last season, but Dekanich had the better numbers. Pickard is likely to take over the Admirals' everyday starter role this season and may have a better shot with the Preds next year.
The 18th overall selection of the 2008 NHL entry draft is just 18-years-old but he already has a reputation and a lot of hockey hardware. Pickard has spent the last three seasons piling up impressive goal tending numbers in the WHL. He racked up an impressive 46-12 record with 2.32 GAA and .920 save percentage last season at Tri-City. Pickard is a goalie to keep an eye on for the future.

Pickard fought the puck a bit Saturday in exhibition action against the Winnipeg Jets. He allowed two goals on nine shots in the first period before being replaced to start the second. He then returned with 5:36 to play in the period.
