Deschamps signed a one-year contract with Oulu Karpat of Finland's Liiga last week, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Deschamps was non-tendered by the Capitals earlier this offseason after scoring 15 goals and adding 25 assists over 65 games with AHL Hershey last season. The 24-year-old cited a desire to avoid the uncertain nature of a two-way deal as his primary reason for heading overseas, but he does hope to return to North America at some point later in his career.

Nicolas Deschamps is a low ceiling prospect, who will likely divide his time between Washington and Hersey (AHL) this season. Deschamps had 10 goals and 23 points in 66 AHL games last season. He is best left on waivers.
Deschamps came to Toronto in one of those "change of scenery deals." Don’t get us wrong -- he's talented enough; he has great speed and an exceptional release, but he needs to bulk up to earn a job in the NHL. One word: project.
The strong-skating Deschamps has played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League the past two seasons and had 24 goals and 65 points in 65 games. He is at least a season away from making an impact in the NHL.
