Wathier has played his way up the Dallas system since being drafted in 2003, surfacing in the NHL for a total of nine games over the past three years. He has good size, meaning he could slot in as a checking center when injuries dictate, but there's nothing more than that here.
Wathier provided some decent scoring (19 goals, 21 assists) for the Texas Stars (AHL) last season but doesn't project as anything more than a third or fourth liner at the NHL level.
Wathier chipped in just 16 points in 77 games in the AHL last year, the third straight season he's appeared at that level.
Limited to just 19 games in the AHL due to injury, Wathier figures to spend the bulk of 2008-09 in the minors.
