Hamilton will join San Jose as a pro scout, per AHL.com.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton went undrafted coming out of the OHL in 2005-06 and spent the majority of his 13-year professional career playing in the minors. The winger did log 30 NHL games for the Maple Leafs and Oilers, in which he notched one goal, four assists and eight PIM. Upon hanging up his skates, the 33-year-old should provide a keen eye as a scout for the Sharks, having spent so much time playing in the AHL.

Hamilton's biggest asset is his size, but he offers very little else offensively. He may ultimately settle into a grinding role at the NHL level, but the fact he went unclaimed off waivers during training camp shows that he's not an integral member of the Edmonton rebuild.
Hamilton has played a handful of NHL games (14) over the past three seasons with Toronto and Edmonton without tickling the twine and that may not change this season. At 29, he is no longer a prospect and he'll start the season as a journeyman meathead in the AHL. They can find their fists elsewhere.
Hamiton is proof-positive that hard work can pay off. This career minor leaguer -- and AHL captain -- was 26 when he finally made his NHL debut in March. He's been through several injuries, some of which were career threatening, but he has persevered. It's a great story, but it doesn't give him fantasy value. But we do love a good underdog story for sure.
Hamilton’s window on the NHL is closing. At 26 and with zero NHL minutes and flat-lining minor league production, he really has nothing that distinguishes him from all the other long-term minor leaguers. His only shot at breaking into the NHL may have to come with another team … a complete cellar dweller, not just a semi-cellar dweller like the Buds.
Hamilton has size but a history of injuries. And at 25, he's still waiting on his NHL debut. Sadly, it may never come.
Hamilton posted 15 goals and 10 assists in 65 games with the Houston Aeros and Toronto Marlies during the 2008-09 season. He was acquired by the Maple Leafs in the Robbie Earl deal in January, but doesn't project any value in 2009-10.
