Mashinter was reassigned to the AHL's San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic Bay Area reports.

ANALYSIS
The longtime journeyman was just recalled Tuesday, though he didn't feature in the Sharks' loss to Arizona. Mashinter has a chance to be recalled again ahead of Thursday's matchup with Vancouver, though even if he gets the call, he shouldn't be given any lineup consideration. In 64 career NHL games, Mashinter has just five points to go along with a minus-12 rating.

Acquired from San Jose in January of 2013 in exchange for Tommy Grant and a 2014 conditional seventh round pick, Mashinter brings size wherever he goes. After a call up in February this past season, the 6'4, 235 pound left winger appeared in just four games for the Rangers. At the OHL level, the 24-year-old displayed an offensive streak, posting a career-high 30 goals and 42 points with Belleville in 2008-09. Arguably, his best professional season to date is 2010-11 with the Worcester Sharks (AHL) where he registered 37 points (22 goals) 117 PIM in 79 games. However, like many before him, his lack of points through 17 career NHL games suggests his offensive side is not likely to translate at the NHL level. Most fantasy owners should be looking elsewhere for sleeper points as he's likely to bounce between healthy scratch and Hartford (AHL) all season, and if he does see NHL action he'll only move the needle on the penalty minutes category.

Mashinter was a popular call-up for the Sharks last season, having made his way into 13 games with the big club. This brief stint proved to be a rude awakening for the 22-year-old as he failed to log a single point. But the physical forward still benefited from his time in the minors, as he collected 14 goals, 19 assists and 96 penalty minutes with AHL Worcester, the Sharks’ affiliate. Unless he shows he can handle more responsibility in the NHL, Mashinter will be little more than organizational depth in 2011-12.

You could say that Brandon puts the 'Mash' in Mashinter. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound forward collected 117 penalties down in Worcester of the AHL last season. He does bring a little bit of offense so it would be wrong to classify him as a goon, but you could argue that his skating needs patch work before he can be seriously considered for a gig on San Jose's blue line.

The Sharks bit on the chance to acquire Mashinter as a free agent in March 2009, signing the winger to an entry-level contract. He likely will not see NHL action this season, but at least the Sharks know they have an imposing forward – excuse the pun - waiting in the wings.
