DiBenedetto will play with Orebro of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) this season.
Although the Isles did extend a qualifying offer to DiBenedetto in the off-season he has decided to play in Austria this season. Should he come back to the NHL, the Isles still own his rights, but they are loaded with mediocre forwards with limited upside.
DiBenedetto had a cup of coffee with the Isles last season, adding an assist in eight games. He will begin this season with Bridgeport of the AHL and should get a chance with the Isles when the need arises. DiBenedetto does have some offensive potential, but is not considered one of the team's top prospects.
After scoring 93 points in back to back seasons with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL, DiBenedetto had a disappointing first season with Bridgeport of the AHL, posting only six goals and 14 points in 67 games. He is not on the Islanders radar at this time.
DiBenedetto finished second in scoring on the Sarnia Sting (OHL) to Steve Stamkos with 93 points in 2007-08 and led the team in scoring this past season (93 points again). He obviously has some scoring punch, but we'll see if that transfers over to the AHL as he will play for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2009-10.
