Once upon a time in a land far, far away, the Carolina Hurricanes blew their first-round pick on this pseudo-power forward with a big shot. That was 2009. The consensus was that he was going to be the next Milan Lucic. Fast forward to today: he's bumped around the minors and is now in his fourth system. The goals aren't coming, but the PIMs are, but that's not a particularly successful combo in today's NHL. He might get a couple of opportunities with the Bolts over the next couple seasons, but that's going to be about it.
Paradis was one of the elements in the Blackhawks' trade of Kris Versteeg to the Maple Leafs. Last season was his first full season in professional hockey. At 6-2 and 215 lb, he can be a physical presence in the Rockford lineup, but he needs to throw his weight around a bit more. He only registered 39 penalty minutes in 58 games along with five goals and 11 assists. We'll see if he can become a bit more aggressive this year in the AHL.
Paradis (and his booming shot) will be utilized in the QMJHL, a junior league, in 2010-11. Evidently, teams have had a tough time figuring out how to fit him in, as the centerman is already associated with his third NHL club since the Hurricanes selected him 27th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Paradis was selected by the ‘Canes in the 2009 entry draft. He’s a power forward who delivers cannon-like shots, so with Carolina wanting imposing players for this season and in the future, Paradis could end up as a perfect fit for the club.
