Montreal announced Monday that they have sent Avtsin to their AHL Hamilton Bulldogs affiliate.

Avtsin, taken 109th overall by Montreal in 2009, fulfilled a three-year commitment to the organization before returning to Russia in the offseason. After three disappointing seasons in the American Hockey League, Avtsin has signed to play in Russia for Metallurg Novokuznetsk in the KHL. He has offensive skills that just never materialized consistently for Hamilton, and his work off the puck and in his own zone needs improvement. Just 22, Avtsin is looking to re-start his career.

Avtsin's first year in North America didn't go very well as the 19-year-old Russian never showed us much hockey IQ. He's big and is considered an advanced skater, but he's skinny and got knocked off the puck easily when stepping up in competition. He certainly needs more seasoning, but is still young enough to develop and hopefully he's learned from a tough 2010-11 season.
