Rissanen signed a two-year contract with Jokerit Helsinki of the KHL on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The 2009 sixth-round pick spent all of 2015-16 in the AHL with Charlotte, accumulating 13 points over 54 games. He will now return to his native Finland on a two-year deal to play in the KHL. At just 24 years of age, it's possible he will return to the US again at some point but there's no guarantee of that at this point.

Rissanen made his NHL debut in March of last season, appearing in six games for the Hurricanes before an MCL injury knocked him out for the remainder of the season. With a full offseason to recover, the 23-year-old is reported to be back to full health and was inked to a one-year, two-way contract with the ‘Canes in July. Rissanen is expected to challenge for a regular role on the Hurricanes' blue line during training camp, and will battle the likes of fellow young blueliners Michal Jordan, Ryan Murphy, Noah Hanifin, and Haydn Fleury for a spot on the Canes’ third defensive pairing.
