Almqvist played a key role in the Grand Rapids Griffins taking home the Calder Cup last season, picking up 31 points in the regular season and upping his production in the postseason with 10 points in 21 games. While he will likely get a shot at cracking the top six for Detroit in the fall, the emergence of Danny DeKeyser may leave Almqvist in Grand Rapids for the time being.
