ANALYSIS
Clendening spent last season playing in Finland for Ilves Tampere, registering eight goals and 20 assists in 40 games before adding three more points in five postseason contests. The 31-year-old defenseman hasn't logged an NHL game since the 2018-19 campaign when he was with Columbus. When he eventually hangs up his skates, Clendening will likely retire having played in 90 NHL games in which he tallied four goals and 20 assists.

Clendening hasn't played in an NHL game since May 4, 2019, but a condensed 2020-21 season could keep him in the Blue Jackets' orbit as a depth defenseman. Now 28 years old, the time for Clendening to solidify an NHL job is likely gone, but with most teams expecting to need nine or 10 blueliners, there's likely a place for him on the taxi squad. It'd still be a long-shot for Clendening to see NHL ice next season, so fantasy managers shouldn't consider him for their virtual teams.
