Gustafsson will start the season playing for the Iowa Wild. He's shown great promise in the past, but struggled last year as the parent club juggled goalies like no other team in the league. Gustafsson started a team-leading 40 gamesin the AHL last year, with a 2.98 goals against average and .903 save percentage. He has a steep hill to climb if he wants to play in the NHL this season. The Wild have Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding on one-way contracts and, once a deal is brokered, Darcy Kuemper as the heir apparent behind them. The Wild like his upside, but this season will be another year of development for Gustafsson.
