GColorado Avalanche  Free Agent
April 16, 2019
Cannata -- who was up with the Avs as an emergency third goalie -- was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Tuesday, TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Cannata's promotion was likely to get him some extra work while the Eagles had a few days off before the Calder Cup Playoffs start Friday. The 29-year-old actually spent most of the year with ECHL Utah, where he went 17-18-4 with a .904 save percentage. Set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, the 2009 sixth-round pick could struggle to secure a two-way deal from an NHL club.

Crashing the Crease: Trade Deadline Fallout
March 1, 2017
Sasha Yodashkin delivers his weekly analysis of the goaltending landscape, focusing this time on the fallout from Wednesday's trade deadline.
Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
Cannata played in 28 games with AHL Utica last season, posting a 2.83 GAA and a .907 save percentage. He went 12-12-1 on the year, failing to record a shutout. The 24-year is old is currently behind Ryan Miller, Eddie Lack, Jacob Markstrom and Joacim Eriksson on the Canucks’ depth chart, so the 2009 sixth-round draft pick will likely spend this upcoming season in the ECHL.
Cannata had his first extended appearance with Chicago of the AHL last season, finishing 6-6 with a 2.65 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 14 appearances. He received a surprise promotion from the Canucks prior to the playoffs due to an injury to Corey Schneider. While he might have served as the Canucks’ backup netminder during the 2012-13 playoffs, Cannata appears to be third in line behind Eddie Lack and Joacim Eriksson for the role to back up Roberto Luongo this upcoming season. Unless he makes significant strides this year, Cannata’s long-term upside is likely that of a backup goaltender at the NHL level. For now, expect him to spend lots of time in the AHL.
