Speers will compete for a spot with the Devils in camp, but he's likely to wind up back in AHL Binghamton. The 2015 third-rounder went scoreless in three appearances with the big club back in 2016-17 before posting just 12 goals and seven assists in 62 AHL contests last season. There are plenty of more exciting prospects out there, though Speers does appear to have strong intangibles after serving as the captain of his OHL team back in juniors.
