Plotnikov assisted on a Boyd Gordon goal in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Avalanche.
ANALYSIS
The Russian only logged 9:02 of ice time, but picked up his first point since being traded from Pittsburgh, and was very active in his limited time. Aside from assisting on Arizona's only goal of the night, he took a shot, had two penalty minutes, and registered two hits. Plotnikov has just three points in his 36-game NHL career, making him a non-factor in fantasy terms for the time being.

The 25-year-old Russian forward has spent six seasons in the KHL and has scored at least 13 goals in each of the last four years, and now the Penguins have signed him to bolster their wing depth. Plotnikov won a silver medal with Evgeni Malkin at the IIHF World Championships last spring, and the team is hoping for a chemistry spark between the two. With an impressive training camp, there’s an outside chance of Plotnikov serving as a winger on Malkin’s line. It’s probably a long shot, but this is a situation fantasy owners need to keep an eye on.
