This is a big year for Lappin, who's hoping to avoid becoming a career AHLer. He dressed for just six games with the big club last season after playing in 43 the year before, and has a mediocre total of eight points over those 49 career NHL appearances. Lappin's coming off a 31-goal, 53-point campaign with AHL Binghamton, but he turns 26 in November and is running out of chances to stick in the NHL. Best-case scenario for him is earning a bottom-six role in New Jersey.
