Hopes to re-sign with Chicago
Caggiula hopes to re-sign with the Blackhawks this offseason, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Much like many of the teams around the NHL, the Blackhawks will be in a major cap crunch this offseason, particularly since they currently don't have a No. 1 netminder signed for next season, but the team would surely love to keep Caggiula around if possible. The 26-year-old winger has dealt with injuries over the past two campaigns, but he's also proven to be a versatile player that can play up and down the lineup when injuries strike, an invaluable quality. If he's going to remain in Chicago, the Blackhawks will likely have to get creative in the form of trades and even a buyout or two this offseason.

Caggiula had the worst year of his NHL career with 15 points in 40 contests for the Blackhawks in 2019-20. He skated only 11:49 per game and garnered little interest as a free agent until the Coyotes signed him to a league-minimum deal in December. There's no guarantee he'll play every game in the desert, but he's averaged over two hits per game in his career, giving his new team a physical edge. The 26-year-old probably won't appeal to fantasy managers in standard formats, but a hot start to the season could make him worth a look in deep leagues.
