Clemmensen will hang up his skates and take a job as the Devils' goaltending development coach, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
ANALYSIS
The 37-year-old Clemmensen was slated to become an unrestricted free agent Wednesday, but with little more than a reserve role with an AHL club likely to be offered up to him from prospective teams, it appears he's decided to retire. A veteran of 12 NHL seasons, Clemmensen will wrap up his career with a 73-59 record, 2.79 GAA and .905 save percentage over 191 appearances with the Devils, Maple Leafs and Panthers.

The Devils brought back Clemmensen as an option to backup Cory Schneider after he had several up-and-down seasons with Florida. Clemmensen last played for New Jersey in 2009 and had struggled to see consistent ice time with the Panthers, never playing more than 31 games for them, earning just nine wins the last two seasons and seeing some time in the AHL last year after the Roberto Luongo trade. Clemmensen is 37 and is not assured of being the team’s primary backup with Keith Kinkaid and Scott Wedgewood in the New Jersey system.
