Unlikely to play again
When asked about Dubinsky on Friday, general manager Jarmo Kekalainen admitted that the 34-year-old pivot's wrist injury will likely keep him from playing professional hockey again, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
ANALYSIS
Kekalainen deemed Dubinsky's wrist injury a "chronic condition" back in April, but there was still a glimmer of hope that the veteran forward would be able to play again at some point in the future. However, with Friday's statement, it seems like a foregone conclusion that Dubinsky will spend the final year of his contract on long-term injured reserve before announcing his retirement following the conclusion of the 2020-21 campaign. If that does indeed end up being the case, the 2004 secound-round pick will finish his career having totaled 153 goals and 438 points in 823 games split between the Rangers and Blue Jackets over 13 seasons.

The 33-year-old forward still gives it his all every night, but at this stage of his career there isn't much to recommend Dubinsky for from a fantasy perspective. He's missed 41 games over the last two seasons due to various injuries, and his offensive skills have eroded completely -- he's scored just six goals in each of those two campaigns. His minus-16 rating last year also wasn't simply a reflection of being matched up against the other team's top scoring unit all the time. Dubinsky will probably hang onto a bottom-six role due to his contract, which still has two years remaining on it, but a bounce-back season seems unlikely given all the mileage he's accumulated over the years with his physical style of play.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

May be on trade block
The Blue Jackets have tried to trade Dubinsky in recent weeks, Adam Gretz of NBC Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Columbus has been rumored as a possible landing spot for Mike Hoffman, one of the top free agents left on the market. Hoffman's asking for around $6 million per year. The Blue Jackets would want to move Dubinsky's $5.85 million contract to make that work. This comes down to finances more than the salary cap, as the 34-year-old isn't expected to play again since he's dealing with a chronic wrist condition. He'll remain on long-term IR during the upcoming season, which means he won't count against the salary cap but will still be paid his typical salary. In turn, the Blue Jackets likely would need to include a draft pick or another asset to move Dubinsky's contract off their books.
