Staal was an ironman for the Panthers in 2022-23, logging 15 points, 152 hits, 122 blocked shots and a plus-10 rating in 82 games. Despite being 36 years old, he's not showing too many signs of losing his touch in the defensive zone -- he remains capable of top-four minutes and steady defense. He'll be heading into a much worse situation after signing with the Flyers, but he should be an ideal fit in a John Tortorella system that preaches defense and team-first play over flashy offense. That won't lead Staal back into fantasy relevance, however.

Mulling over future
Staal is expected to take some time before deciding whether to continue his NHL career, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Staal was a frequent healthy scratch this season, limiting him to just 35 games in which he generated one goal, four assists and 20 shots. Even when he did get onto the ice, the 36-year-old blueliner averaged just 13:49 of ice time, the lowest of his long career. If this does mark the end of Staal's career, he will retire having played in 1,136 games for the Rangers, Red Wings, Panthers and Flyers.
