Bourdon was killed Thursday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in his native northern New Brunswick, the Canadian Press reports.

Bourdon, who was 21, was the Canucks' first-round pick, 10th overall, in the 2005 NHL draft. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Bourdon will fight for a spot with the Canucks in 2007-08, but may be in tough with a solid slate of blueliners penciled in. The blue chip prospect is a tremendous two-way player that brings a high hockey IQ to the rink every night. He has great vision, a very good first pass and is not afraid to take the body. He will be a solid NHLer when he finally gets the chance to play top four minutes, though that may not be this upcoming season.
Bourdon is an offensive defenseman with a booming slapshot. His potential is tremendous, but not for this season. Its unlikely that Bourdon is poised to generate fantasy worthy points in his rookie season.
Physical, two-way defenseman with a strong outlet pass and hard shot. Needs time to mature as he sometimes takes himself out of plays with over-aggressiveness.
