Set for front office job
Bishop will join the Stars' front office Saturday when his contract with the Sabres expires, Saad Yousuf of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bishop hasn't played in the NHL since the 2019-20 season due to a career-ending knee injury, but he technically remained active for the remainder of his contract. He'll retire from playing with a career 222-128-36 record, 2.32 GAA and .921 save percentage over 413 contests. Bishop will take over as Director of Player Development for the Stars, with whom he spent parts of three seasons at the tail end of his career.

Bishop will miss the start of the 2020-21 season as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He produced a solid 21-16-4 record with two shutouts, a 2.50 GAA, and a .920 save percentage in 44 games in 2019-20, but he was ultimately outperformed by backup Anton Khudobin. Bishop has long been a popular goalie in fantasy for his exceptional work over the last eight years, but he's also developed a reputation as being a bit injury-prone. Now 34 years old, Bishop may begin to decline away from his elite peak. Expect him to split duties evenly with Khudobin when he returns, which should happen sometime in March.

Contract being traded?
According to ESPN's Kevin Weekes, the Stars are close to trading Bishop, who isn't expected to play again due to a degenerative knee issue, to the Sabres in what is being deemed a "salary-cap move."
ANALYSIS
Bishop has one season remaining on his six-year, $29.5 million contract, and the Sabres are evidently willing to take on his remaining salary in order to grab a draft pick or a prospect from the Stars.
