Klimchuk signed a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Klimchuk was traded twice during the 2018-19 season, but he was still unable to break into the NHL. The winger played for AHL Stockton, Toronto and Belleville, between which he tallied nine goals, six helpers and 33 PIM in 38 appearances. Drafted by the Flames with the 28th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, the 24-year-old has only managed to break into one NHL game. Klimchuk will likely continue to split his time between leagues for the upcoming campaign.

Klimchuk has been rock solid for AHL Stockton two years running (amassing 38 goals and 83 points over 128 games) but he hasn't been able to make an impact with Calgary as of yet. The prospect made his NHL debut last year, failing to register a point in his lone appearance. Considering he inked a two-way deal to stay with the Flames and will likely spend the majority of his time in the minors again in 2018-19, it's best to avoid Klimchuk unless depth is a serious concern.
The 20-year-old winger tore up the WHL last season with 80 points in 60 games. While he may not be NHL-ready yet, Klimchuk should make the AHL squad in 2015-16 and rack up big numbers. The Flames' surprising resurgence allows them to take their time with Klimchuk, who may be the most talented prospect in their system right now.
Klimchuk tore up the WHL the last two years, with 76 and 74 points, respectively. Those totals earned him a tryout with AHL Abbotsford at the end of 2013-14, where he failed to score in four games with that club. A first-round draft pick in 2013, Klimchuk could use some more experience in the minors before heading up to Calgary.
