Oskar Sundqvist

Oskar Sundqvist

2025 Fantasy Outlook
This past season, Sundqvist posted nearly identical production to his 21-point output in 2023-24 -- he had six goals and 20 points (seven on the power play) over 67 regular-season appearances. The right-shot forward added 32 PIM, 60 shots on goal, 78 hits, 53 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating. Those numbers are less than stellar, and considering Sundqvist is getting older in conjunction with the fact that he has never been healthy for a full season in his 10-year career, it’s probably best to fade the 31-year-old in upcoming drafts. He could be worth an in-season look if the Blues have injuries to their forward group, though his upside is minimal, especially if he loses his second-unit power-play role. Read Past Outlooks

Two assists in season debut
CSt. Louis Blues
October 24, 2025
Sundqvist tallied two assists and dished out three hits in Thursday's 7-4 loss to Utah.
ANALYSIS
Sundqvist was making his season debut after missing six games because of a lower-body injury. He found a way to make an impact right out of the gate by registering the primary helpers on third-period goals scored by Nathan Walker and Philip Broberg. It's a strong start for Sundqvist, who has tallied 20 or more points in each of the past four regular seasons. While his ceiling in fantasy is limited in a bottom-six role, he's had a role on the power play each of the past three seasons, making him an intriguing name to watch in deeper leagues that value banger stats.

Offseason surgery for a torn ACL could prevent Sundqvist from being ready for the start of the 2024-25 campaign. The surgery was performed in late March and he's set to be evaluated at the six-month mark. Still, even if the 30-year-old Swede is on the ice for the start of training camp, he likely will have plenty of rust to shake off considering he wasn't able to put in a full offseason program. The physical forward has reached the 30-point threshold just once in his nine-year NHL career, meaning he would be unlikely to hit that mark in 2024-25 even without the injury concern.
After posting 28 points in 67 games -- his best output since 2018-19 -- Sundqvist found his way back to St. Louis this summer. He split 2022-23 between Detroit and Minnesota, serving as a solid bottom-six option with both teams, though he also saw some unexpected power-play time with the Red Wings. The veteran forward may not get time with the man advantage as he begins his second stint with the Blues, and at this point, there's not much growth to expect in his offense. He'll likely land in the 25-30 point range with modest physicality and poor shot totals, numbers that won't play in most fantasy formats.
Sundqvist posted 12 goals and 11 assists over 57 games last year, marking the second straight season that he hit double digits in each category. The 26-year-old rarely escapes the bottom six, let alone the fourth line. But the Swedish center is a strong defender and one of the team's best penalty killers. Sundqvist is a lineup fixture this season, just not for fantasy purposes.
The 25-year-old was a healthy scratch 40 times during the 2017-18 campaign and was effectively written off as an AHL player. However, Sundqvist made major strides during the summer and recorded 31 points in 74 games during the regular season while becoming one of the team's most effective penalty killers. Sundqvist's stellar two-way play earned him a four-year, $11 million contract, and the Blues will likely keep him toiling in a middle-six role for the upcoming season. The past season is a major source of confidence for Sundqvist, but 35 points is likely his ceiling, so he's better suited for daily fantasy play rather than season-long formats.
Sundqvist's first season with the Blues was difficult, as he only played 42 games and averaged 10:29 of ice time. The 24-year-old center was able to generate one goal and four helpers in those outings, but his development would've favored a full-time role with AHL San Antonio. Instead, he logged only six games with the minor-league club, notching six points. With the Blues bringing in two more pivots this offseason and prospect Robert Thomas expected to make the team, Sundqvist will struggle for NHL minutes again.
Sundqvist may be stepping into a favorable role in The Lou. With Patrik Berglund (shoulder) out until December, he was likely to compete with Robby Fabbri (knee) for the third-line center role, but Fabbri is out for the rest of the season. Therefore, Sundqvist will rotate in on the third line along with younger prospects to see if he can stick. There's a lot up in the air for the Blues, so keep an eye on them to see if Sundqvist will be called on for the long term.
