Rasmus Andersson
Rasmus Andersson
24-Year-Old DefensemanD
Calgary Flames
2019 Fantasy Outlook
Andersson was pretty solid during his first full NHL season in 2018-19, skating in 79 games while recording 19 points (two goals, 17 helpers) and 115 shots on goal. The Swedish blueliner typically featured on the Flames' third pairing, but occasionally saw time alongside Norris Trophy winner Mark Giordano. The plus-17 rating Andersson posted last season demonstrates that he's already capable of playing well in his own zone, which has made it easy for him to gain the trust of coach Bill Peters. The 22-year-old should only continue to improve in 2019-20, and could approach the 30-point mark while adding approximately 140 shots on goal. If he's able to secure more time on Calgary's top pairing, the 2015 second-round pick could be in line for a breakout season within the next two-to-three years. Read Past Outlooks

Improves in second season
DCalgary Flames
September 2, 2020
Andersson registered five goals, 22 points and a minus-7 rating in 70 regular-season games this season.
ANALYSIS
Andersson produced three more points despite playing nine fewer games than he did in his rookie year. The Swede added 124 shots on net and 83 blocked shots. Andersson is expected to take on a larger role in 2020-21 -- he's one of three defensemen on the roster signed for the upcoming campaign. With turnover on the blue line, the 23-year-old will likely see full-time usage in the top four. He's being groomed as Mark Giordano's replacement as the top defenseman of the future -- as such, look for Andersson to skate more than 20 minutes per game and finish on pace for 30 to 40 points in an 82-game season next year.

2018 Fantasy Outlook
Andersson spent most of last season with AHL Stockton, producing nine goals and 30 assists in 56 games. He also suited up for 10 games at the NHL level, but failed to register a point. The 21-year-old figures to spend the bulk of the year in the minors again, but replicating (or better yet, exceeding) his plus-20 rating from the latest minor-league tour could result in more opportunities for the Swede at hockey's highest level. Until then, he won't warrant much fantasy attention.
