Andersson had two great seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23 in which he recorded 50 and 49 points, respectively. He took a step back last year, though, finishing with nine goals and 39 points across 78 contests with the Flames. His decline can be explained by his reduced power-play role -- he went from 21 points with the man advantage in 2022-23 to just eight last year. That's because Calgary acquired defenseman Yegor Sharangovich from New Jersey in the summer of 2023, and he was given a spot on the top power-play unit while Andersson slid to the second grouping. That arrangement is expected to continue in 2024-25, which makes an offensive bounce back from Andersson unlikely. Still, roughly 40 points is nothing to sneeze at, and the 27-year-old should also be counted on to provide over 130 blocks for the third straight campaign.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could stay with Flames
Andersson is on the trade block but could still start the year in Calgary, Eric Francis of Sportsnet reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Andersson is in the final season of his six-year deal signed back in January of 2020, making him a prime deadline day trade candidate. The 28-year-old Swede has seen his point total drop every year from a high of 50 in 2021-22 all the way down to 31 last year. The lack of power-play production appears to be the biggest thing holding Rasmussen back, so if he does get traded to a better PP team, Andersson's point total could jump back up.
