Assist streak at three games
Toews notched an assist and went plus-3 in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Stars in Game 6.
ANALYSIS
Toews' assist streak is up to three games after he helped out on a second-period tally by Martin Necas. The 31-year-old Toews has four points, five shots on net, 17 blocked shots, four hits and a plus-3 rating over six playoff outings. He continues to provide a defensive counterweight to Cale Makar on the Avalanche's top pairing.

Although under the shadow of a generational talent in Cale Makar, Toews has proven to be a fantastic defenseman in his own right. He hit the 50-point milestone for the third straight campaign in 2023-24 by supplying 12 goals and 38 assists across 82 regular-season contests. He also recorded 159 shots, 110 blocks and 74 hits, which were all totals not far out of line with what he produced in 2022-23. At the age of 30, there isn't additional upside, but his spot on the top defensive pairing with Makar is well-established. There is consequently little reason to believe that the upcoming campaign will be much different for Toews than the one that proceeded, but given the kind of numbers he has put up in recent years, that's a good thing.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Ready to play Tuesday
Toews, who is on IR with a lower-body injury, could be activated ahead of Tuesday's clash with Seattle, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
The team created a roster spot for Toews on Monday by sending Chris Wagner down to the minors, though there is no guarantee it will immediately insert Toews into the lineup. Still, it's a good indication that the blueliner will be back sooner rather than later. Once given the all-clear, Toews figures to link up with Cale Makar on the top pairing, which could result in John Ludvig or Sam Malinski being dropped from the lineup.
