Messier announced his retirement from hockey on Monday, according to ESPNews.
ANALYSIS
Not much more than we can say but to tip our caps to one of the best players we've seen in our generation, someone who played the game right well into his 40s. Mess finishes his career at over a point-a-game clip, with 694/1,193/1,887 in 1,756 games. Hockey doesn't get many guys with his leadership abilities.

Messier, who scored in his season finale at MSG on Wednesday and will not play in the Rangers' final game on Saturday at Washington, hasn't ruled out playing next year though he says he's leaning towards retirement, the New York Post reports. Messier also said that he would only come back to the Rangers, if he were to return for a 26th season in the league. Messier added that when he does retire, he'll live in New York. "I feel New York is my home now," he said. "I feel this is where I belong."
