After getting into a career-high 30 NHL games in the 2022-23 campaign, Mackey has appeared in just three outings at the top level in the last two regular seasons. The lack of NHL time coincided with entering the Rangers' organization, and there seems to be no reason to suggest an uptick in minutes is forthcoming. With Urho Vaakanainen (lower body) dealing with an injury, Mackey will provide the big club with some depth insurance on the blue line ahead of Tuesday's matchup against Carolina. However, Matthew Robertson will likely play against the Hurricanes if Vaakanainen is unavailable.
