The Devils claimed Urbom off waivers from the Capitals on Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
ANALYSIS
The young defenseman was originally drafted by the Devils in 2009, and spent three years in the organization before playing for the Capitals. He will be assigned to AHL Albany to begin his second stint with his former team.

Urbom has been in the Devils' system for several seasons and may get his shot this coming fall provided he proves himself at training camp. The towering Swede is long on potential but has played a modest 14 games in his three seasons but he has a shot to crack the lineup. Remember Urbom's name in keeper leagues, but his skill set tends more toward the defensive side of the puck.
Urbom played a mere five games with New Jersey this past season after eight as a 19-year old in 2010. The 6-4 Swede has talent and will be looking for a regular role with the big club on a crowded blue line. Urbom notched 12 points in 50 AHL games last season and will certainly get a long look during training camp. Remember his name in keeper leagues.
Urbom began the 2010-11 season with New Jersey but played just eight NHL games with a goal in the regular season finale following a late-season call-up. He's one of the team's more promising prospects, and at 6-foot-4, he figures to be a physical presence on the blue line. The Devils have several players battling for some openings on defense, but Urbom's name is definitely worth remembering during the late rounds of keeper leagues.
Urbom was a surprise out of training camp, making the roster at 19-years old. The Devils like his size (6-4, 215) and that he posted 33 points in the WHL with 87 penalty minutes. He is one of two defensemen vying for third-pairing minutes and may drift between the AHL and NHL, but he's worth remembering in keeper leagues, as he has potential.
